Feast Day of St. Nicholas in Maryland

On Friday, December 6/19, the parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Crofton, Maryland celebrated its patronal feast. A Vigil was served Thursday evening, and the Divine Liturgy in the morning. Metropolitan Demetrius of America presided, assisted by Fr. George Psaromatis, the parish rector, Fr. Christos Patitsas, Fr. Theodore Giannakopoulos, and Archdeacon Agathangelus. There were a great number of people present on this weekday liturgy, many of whom took the day off from work, and most partook of the Holy Mysteries.

After the Divine Liturgy, the clergy and faithful were invited to the home of Andreas and Maria Psaromatis in Annapolis, Maryland. The faithful were edified by the Metropolitan's presence, and the opportunity to fellowship with one another.

Hero-Worshipping: the Sickness of our Holy Struggle

“Trust ye not in princes, in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation.”
(Psalm 145:3)

We mustn’t have absolute trust in human beings for our salvation, no matter what dignity they have. Human beings are changeable. Today they are saints, tomorrow—deniers. Today—sinners, tomorrow—righteous. We must have absolute trust in God, and in Him we must base our hopes of salvation. “Blessed is he of whom the God of Jacob is his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God” (Psalm 145:5).
