Church of Aghia Sophia is Being Rebuilt in New York!

"And send word to the Franks, that the Turk has taken the City, to come and empty it, to leave nothing behind. To take Aghia Sophia, with its gold screens, to take the Gospel, and the Altar.

"And our Lady when she heard it, her eyes filled with tears, and Michael and Gabriel they comforted her: Weep not our Lady, and be not tearful, With the passing of years, and in time, they'll be ours again".

Until such a time as that arrives, the Church of the Holy Wisdom of God -Aghia Sophia- is being built not on the Bosphorus of the Roman Empire, but in the mountains of the Empire State, in Woodstock, NY.

An exact replica of the Great Church of the Holy Wisdom of Constantinople is being rebuilt. The new Aghia Sophia will be a functioning Church, not a museum. It is being constructed at the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Ascension.

Ask A Priest

Is the GOC Insular?

Q. In considering becoming part of the GOC in America, I am getting warnings from various circles that the attitude of GOC people is that of being “walled off,” “arrogant,” “judgmental,” and “in your face” toward those not in the Genuine Orthodox Church, with accusations such as “World Orthodox” priests are “not even Christians” and the like. Could you give me your personal, realistic assessment of this dynamic and possibly refer me to an official statement on how GOC members should and do relate to and communicate with those in “World Orthodoxy”?
